Sculptures Began as Small Models

Sculpture and statuary designed by some of the world's finest artists adorned the Fair's buildings and grounds.  All statuary on the Fairgrounds had to relate to the Louisiana Territory.

Sculptures were chosen for the Fairgrounds from small-scale models submitted by the sculptor.  The models were judged on their artistic quality and their relationship to the Louisiana Territory.   Once chosen, the models were executed in their final version and placed in their planned location at  the Fair.

Exhibitors were free to include all types of sculpture and statues within their displays in the palaces.
